Border Collie - Medium - Young - Male - Dog - Clancy
Description
09-03-09 Clancy is about a year old, neutered, fully vaccinated, gets along with other dogs, has not been cat tested. He does fairly well on the leash. He was originally a Cole Camp pound dog, no one came for him. Foster mom Donna had an opening so he went directly into rescue foster care with her. Donna loves the mixed breeds, finds them to be wonderful family pets. She will crate train him, work on his house manners, update us as improvements are noted. The foster updates on his/her likes & dislikes will help you know if this fur-kid is suitable for your home. The foster has a very important job, evaluating, loving, letting go to make room for another fur-kid at risk. No fence! No problem! We prefer dedicated leash walkers. Out of state adopter? No problem! You must come take delivery of your pup. The foster mom will place him/her in your arms, see the glow of joy on your face. 09-07 First update from foster mom Donna: "Clancy is a FANTASTIC dog! Obviously a house dog that went for an adventure and couldn't find his way home. Got him home Thursday and gave him a bath outdoors. He didn't care for that at all and tried to get away. But was never aggressive in his escape attempts. He is quickly learning the routine of our house. Thursday he slept in the garage on the baby mattress/dog bed. Good doggie, no messes-no whining-no barking. Friday night he slept in the garage, but moved all the shoes from under the stand and slept on the carpet where they are usually kept. Strange, but we guessed he wanted a smaller, enclosed space. Saturday he slept in the house in a closed kennel. Didn't love it, but no whining, barking and no messes. Sunday night he slept in the house - free roam of the family room/basement area. Finally went in his kennel around 4 am on his own. What a good boy! Monday morning first thing - had to give him a medicated bath. He had been scratching nonstop. He has what looks like a dandruff buildup. I used a prescription medicated shampoo and am crossing my fingers that after a few uses this week the problem will be solved. He's stopped the uncontrollable scratching right after bath time. He so wants to please us. He listens even when he doesn't want to and just can't get enough hugs, rubs and pets. He would be a lap dog if allowed! He has been chewing a lot, but I am thinking it could just be an adjustment thing. He's had a lot of changes. Will make sure chewies are available and watch for progress. He plays with my two dogs VERY NICELY! He is bigger than both of them, but is not overbearing or too rough. Seems to understand he has to be more gentle with the little one. What a wonderful boy! I'll try to get you some updated photos soon. I know we can find him a great home. Nothing but the best for this sweetheart! 09-15 2nd update from foster mom: Clancy is having a bit of a hard time here with the floors and stairs. We came home Friday and he was limping pretty badly. Can only guess that he fell down the deck stairs. Now he keeps reinjuring himself on the wooden floors inside. He's kind of gawky, awkward and klutzy - like a preteen. But he's just so sweet. He keeps chewing on things that I would never think of. But as I've said, once corrected doesn't go back to the same item. Crazy, sweet, smart pup that is going to be an awesome dog. He's had free run of the house since around his fourth night with us. It's nuts, but he only chews on things during the day (when I forget to have a rawhide handy), but at night has never touched a thing. And has never chewed on things in the house. Well, he did try to taste a plant, but I was right there with him and corrected him. :-) 09-30 I didn't like how Clancy is still favoring his front leg so took him to the vet today. It's two weeks of bed rest and meds for little dog face. I still plan to bring him to BITP (Bark in the Park - Whiteman Air Force Base) Saturday. He'll just have to sit quiet with me instead of going for walks. If this doesn't work we'll do the X-ray 10-03 Clancy & Donna were at Whiteman Bark in the Park for a day of fun. Clancy remained on his blanket most of the time yet a few short strolls to stretch his legs. He never met a fur-kid or child he didn't like. He seems to be the all around good family pet. Definitely it may benefit Clancy to have an x-ray within the near future. He is still on pain Rx. 10-16 Foster mom Donna He was on rimadyl (doggie aspirin) for a week and I "tried" to keep him quiet and immobile for the full two weeks the vet prescribed. Truly, it didn't happen. After 4 or 5 days I just let him go, otherwise he and I both would have been miserable. He no longer favors his front left paw that he had injured. He plays with my two constantly and is an instigator in a lot of the mischief that happens here. I do have to say he is showing some signs of separation anxiety when I leave the house. Last week he chewed up the foam mats on which the treadmill sits. Chewies were available, but since it happened twice in just a few days he is now going back to some basic kennel training. When I leave the house he goes in the kennel with a chewy and gets to watch Jose and Cody play without him. Hopefully soon I can start leaving him out for short periods of time, good behavior reinforcement with loves and treats, etc. Will keep you posted. He is not kenneled at night as we are here and he is good to go. I'm sure he just doesn't want to be abandoned again. Because of all the rain lately all three of the "boys" are being trained to sit on the rug as soon as they enter the door. It's working pretty well - They come in one at a time, sit so I can towel them off and then they get to "dog pile" and chase each other around the furniture. Clancy is such a good boy - had him on my lap this morning and he just put his head on my shoulder and was most content. Crazy to have a 40 pound, long legged lap dog, but he doesn't seem to think it's an issue. 10-30 A visit was made to check on Clancy. He is doing so well, stops at the back door to have his paws wiped before coming into the house. While he does appear to have recovered from the slip, trip, fall we are still tossing about the idea of an x-ray to confirm or deny any hip issues. -------------------------------- The adoption fee ranges from $75 to $125. The fee is based upon veterinary care, age & size of dog. The higher adoption fee on the younger small dogs helps care for the older dogs that take longer to find fur-ever homes. Senior citizens and disabled receive a discount. We also offer a discount to those in uniform keeping us safe. Land of the free because of the brave. Our adoption process begins with the e-mail or phone call to us. Please be prepared to furnish your complete name, address, telephone number, your veterinarian contact information & at least two personal references. We will then call you to ask a series of questions.
